Soooo… what to do if you mess something up and y Soooo… what to do if you mess something up and you lose control over your drawing? In todays @vensteracademy lesson we’re gonna do feedback sessions. This question is on my shortlist of things I’d like some input on. In this sketch I got something wrong in the perspective. After I realised that, every line I put down felt off and as if I was trying to salvage the unsalvageable. Do I think it is a ‘bad drawing’ (and do I care)? Not really. And I love wonky perspective in drawings anyway. But do I want to feel more intentional and in control, yes please!! Tips? Hi! I had coffee and cake at the Noordertuin at Sk Hi! I had coffee and cake at the Noordertuin at Skeck on Monday and also did some sketching! I started with the plants at the bottom and just built the scene from there. It was a fairly quick sketch and I mostly used continuous line drawing. Messy and playful, just how I like it 🙂 When I just started drawing I tried a cafe drawing like this once and it was such a struggle. Honestly been a little scared to go for it again. Here are some notes 🙂 Last week’s #opleidingbeeldverhaal lesson was about drawing people and as preparation we got the assignment to draw 50 portraits from life. Notes to self: ☀️ Find interesting angles! I noticed the first few faces were all either direct front views or side profiles, so I tried to include more angles. Definitely something to practice more! ☀️ A good place to sit is key! Don’t go sit in the middle of a busy square with things moving around you and distractions everywhere. Find a spot that is more confined, back to a wall ☀️ Explore linework vs shapes. At some point I switched form line and contour drawings to drawings I started with putting down rough shapes of colour and adding linework on top. I really enjoyed the playful and flowy feeling I had while doing these sketches. Talking about going back to school, I painted this Talking about going back to school, I painted this vintagy stationary school stuff flatlay a few years ago. Guess I enjoy the vibe and anticipation of starting a new year of learning 🤓 And of course set the intention to be super organised this year. I was inspired by a visit at the cabinet of curiosities at the @umu.museum, pictures of vintage school items (I used to collect sharpeners and erasers when I was a kid!) and an artwork by @furrylittlepeach called adventure awaits. I’m gonna start my illustration course in a few I’m gonna start my illustration course in a few days, let’s organise my sketchbooks! First one I started was in 2018, about six years ago 😱 Big Mistake: I didn’t date most of them 🙁 I guess because I initially never thought I was actually gonna be an illustrator, I just didn’t think about it. Now I feel sad I don’t know exactly when some of the sketches were made. Luckily I dated a few pages, so I managed to roughly create a timeline. I guess I always worked in multiple sketchbooks at the same time. Some sketchbooks took me a month or 2 and others much longer. Because of the paper some were used only for graphite, pen and coloured pencils while others were dedicated to watercolour. So it’s almost impossible to arrange them chronologically. Which I would prefer so I can see how experimentations led to little discoveries and how I applied those in later work. But still, looking through old work is so nice. Of course I got more skilled since 2018, but at the same time there is a lot of consistency in shapes and linework, just basically how I translate the world, which I think is so interesting! Maybe later I’m gonna be vulnerable and brave on the internet and share some of drawings I did 😬 Oh and don’t get me started on all the work I did on loose scraps of paper or digitally.
